野外识别 │ 通体黑褐色，翅狭长，喉及腰白色，尾浅凹型、非深叉型。叫声为急促的“ sisisisisisi ”。

居留及分布 │ 季节性候鸟。国外分布于非洲、中东、喜马拉雅山脉、中南半岛及大巽他群岛，以及印度、日本、菲律宾。国内分布于包括海南在内的南部大部分地区以及台湾。南岭分布于第一峰、天井山电视台、炉田等地，比白腰雨燕常见。

生境及习性 │ 栖息于开阔林区、建筑物、石壁。成大群活动。营巢于屋檐下、悬崖或洞穴口。繁殖期 3—5 月。雌、雄鸟轮流孵卵。每窝产卵 2~4 枚。

Field identification │ A small, stocky swift with a short, broad, slightly notched tail. It is overall blackish-brown, except for a prominent, broad white rump band and a pale throat patch. Distinguished from Fork-tailed Swift by its smaller size, broader wings and squarish tail lacking a clear-cut deep fork.The calls is a rapid sisisisisisi .

Distribution & status │ Breeds from the Himalayas through Myanmar to southeast China and southern Japan, with northern populations wintering further south. The nominate subspecies occurs in southeast China. In Nanling, it is an uncommon summer visitor and occasional passage migrant in large numbers, recorded at Diyifeng, Television Station of Tianjingshan, Lutian.

Habitat & habits │ House Swifts gather in flocks over a variety of habitats including farmland, forest edge, wetlands and urban parks, and are aerial feeders, consuming vast numbers of mosquito-sized insects.They build their nests in dense colonies on cliffs and man-made structures such as buildings and bridges. In places where they are year-round residents, they use their nests not just for breeding but also as year-round dormitories. The nesting period in Guangdong lasts from March to August.
