野外识别 │ 雄鸟的头前部皮黄色，微沾紫色，头顶、后颈和颈侧绿紫色且具金属光泽，背及尾暗褐色，满布栗色或褐色横斑。上胸红铜色，下胸较浅，臀部白色。雌鸟无亮绿色，背上横斑较密，尾羽较长，尾下覆羽棕色。叫声为一连串的“ wuhooo ”声。

居留及分布 │ 分布于克什米尔、印度东北部的阿萨姆邦、尼泊尔、不丹、孟加拉国、中南半岛、印度尼西亚和中国。国内分布于华南一带，在南岭地区为过境鸟，在大顶山有记录。

生境及习性 │ 栖息于山地森林中，冬季也常出现于低丘陵和山脚平原地带的农田中。通常成对活动，落地时尾上举。行动从容，不甚怕人。繁殖期 5—8 月。成对营巢于茂密的森林中，巢甚简陋。窝卵数 1 枚，偶尔 2 枚。

Field identification │ A slender dove with a long tail and a relatively long neck. Males have a pinkish-grey head, a green sheen on the nape and neck-sides, blackish-brown upperparts densely barred and fringed with rufous, a blackish-brown tail with multiple fine rufous bars, and vinous-brown underparts. Females are duller and have fine dark bars on the head and throat and black scales on the breast. The song is a series of deep coos wuhooo at intervals of 1-2 seconds.

Distribution & status │ Widely distributed from the western Himalayas and northeast India through Myanmar to southeast China and south through SE Asia to Flores. The subspecies minor occurs in China. In Nanling, it is a rare passage migrant, recorded at Dadingshan.

Habitat & habits │ Barred Cuckoo Doves occur in hill forests and other wooded habitats, usually singly. They feed on seeds, buds, shoots and wild fruits and berries.
