从目前国内外学术界的研究状况来看，学者们一般比较关注倍倍尔本人的实践活动，而较少从理论层面系统梳理其社会主义思想；而且，学者们在研究倍倍尔的社会主义思想时，一般对其妇女解放思想关注较多，对其有关社会主义基本规律的认识，以及无产阶级政党的建设思想、议会斗争思想、无产阶级国际主义思想等关注较少。
本书在借鉴国内外学术界研究成果的基础上，对倍倍尔的社会主义思想进行梳理和研究，力求在以下几个方面实现一定程度的创新：
第一，由于学术界目前的研究主要集中在倍倍尔的实践活动上，本书试图通过研读相关文献和材料，把倍倍尔的实践活动和思想观点结合起来，在此基础上系统提炼其社会主义思想；
第二，通过研究倍倍尔的社会主义思想，分别比较完整地阐述倍倍尔社会主义思想产生的历史背景、发展过程，以及他的无产阶级政党的建设思想、议会斗争思想、妇女解放思想、无产阶级国际主义思想等内容，并将倍倍尔的实践活动贯穿其中；
第三，通过对倍倍尔社会主义思想的系统梳理和研究，探讨倍倍尔社会主义思想的影响及历史地位，从而对倍倍尔的社会主义思想作出客观的总体性评价。
第四，由于倍倍尔的理论著作相比于其实践活动来说不算丰富，所以要想系统梳理和研究其社会主义思想，就有一定的难度。而且，当时在德国党内、德国国内、国际社会上都活跃着倍倍尔的身影，他与社会主义历史上众多有名的人物都有书信联系，所以很多资料比较分散和杂乱，对其进行整理和分析也有一定的难度。本书力求能够系统梳理和研究其社会主义思想，不过鉴于本书作者在学识、能力方面的不足，在研究中肯定也存在理解不够准确、资料运用不够娴熟等问题，还需在以后的研究中逐步予以补充和完善。
