Based on the above analyses, before typology of stationary events is discussed, the conceptualization processes of spatial adpositions and positional verbs shall be investigated. Here is the chapter organization of the book:
Chapter 1 provides a background for the study, proposes three research questions, and indicates the significance and structure of this research. In Chapter 2,the author reviews previous studies in representation of space and in representation and typology of spatial stationary events. In Chapter 3,a theoretical framework is developed, which derives from the general framework of the Talmyan Cognitive Semantics and systematically elaborates conceptualization and typology of this type of events. In Chapter 4,the methodology used is described.Chapter 5 is an investigation into the spatial conceptualization processes of spatial adpositions in English and Chinese elicited data.Chapter 6 deals with conceptualization processes and types of positional verbs in representing those events in both languages.Chapter 7 investigates into the typological features of spatial stationary events in English and Chinese data. And Chapter 8 covers the conclusions and limitations, and recommends future research proposals as well.
