This chapter will first focus on the definitions of errors and error analysis from the perspective of SLA．It will then provide a literature review on the relationship between error analysis and L2 writing，while the differences between contrastive analysis and error analysis are also revealed through a comparison of some related works．Another key conception of interlanguage is also provided in the following part，and at the same time，the interlanguage hypothesis depicts the concrete situation of L2 language development．Furthermore，two kinds of linguistic reasons for committing writing errors，interlingual transfer and intralingual transfer，will be demonstrated and reviewed with literature on their relationship with L2 writing．Last but not least，this chapter also examines critically the ever-meaningful studies on error analysis from the perspective of interlanguage．
