This book consists of six chapters as follows:
Chapter 1 provides information on the background of the study and the teaching context and situation of English writing in China.It also demonstrates the five research questions we would like to explore in this study.Meanwhile,it also discusses the objectives of the study,the significance of the study both theoretically and practically,and the challenges encountered.
Chapter 2 reviews the literature on error analysis,contrastive analysis,and interlanguage,and provides the several theoretical frameworks demanded in this dissertation.Last,it examines relevant studies on the error analysis from the perspective of interlanguage.
Chapter 3 focuses on the methodology adopted in thesis study.It provides comprehensive information on the research design,the participants,the instruments used to conduct the research and the pilot study.It also describes how the data is analyzed,including how to divide the three groups,the procedure of analyzing the errors,selecting interview participants,and analyzing interviewing data.
Chapter 4 presents the results of the data analysis which are related to different errors,questionnaires and interviews.It tries to demonstrate the overall view from different angles of students’error types,their non-linguistic reasons,and the direct feedback from English teachers and their students.
Chapter 5 discusses the five questions raised in Chapter 1,the main questions conducted in this research.These questions were clarified and illustrated with the results we have presented in Chapter 4.With the help of these results,the main characteristics of error types L2 learners committed are revealed,and the possible reasons to cause such errors are also differentiated.Thus,the five questions explain the confusions and puzzles of the research in English writing errors.
Chapter 6 reports the conclusion about the findings and the implications of these findings for the L2 writing teaching instruction and learning regulations.It also discusses the limitation of the study and provides constructive recommendations for future research.
