我们伟大祖国的首都——北京，是有着3000多年建城史、800多年建都史的历史名城。早年的北京城建有一大圈又高又厚的城墙。墙外有宽宽的护城河。在城墙的东西南北都建有高大的城门。城门和瓮城、箭楼相连构成抵抗外来侵扰、易守难攻的防御建筑群，非常壮观。明代，国家为加强北京城的战备防御能力，又在内城南面修建了设有七座城门的外城。民间有句俗话描述北京的城门，叫“内九、外七、皇城四”，说的就是北京城内外进出的城门数。老北京内城城垣，建有九座城门。有皇上的时候进出城门有着严格的规定，各门各有用途和说辞，也就是老话儿说的“九门走九车”。随着北京城市的发展，在日新月异的变化中，城墙环绕的旧都市模样已经看不到了，原来的老城墙已变成了宽敞的环城大道。城门只是作为地名保留了下来。从仅存的正阳门城门和箭楼，还有德胜门箭楼上似乎还能想象出老北京城池的一些样子。追忆着古都的城门，品味着“京味儿”文化，隐约中好像又听到了钟鼓楼的晨钟暮鼓。正如一首歌里唱的“走遍了南北西东，也到过了许多名城，静静地想一想，我还是最爱我的北京”。
Beijing, the capital of our great motherland, is a famous historic city with more than 3,000 years history as a town and more than 800 years history as a capital. In early years, a large circle of high and thick walls were built in Beijing city where there is a wide city moat outside the walls. High gates were built in the four corners of the city.The defense building complex was formed by connecting the city gates and the Urn city and the Arrow Tower which was easy to defend and difficult to attack. In the Ming Dynasty, in order to strengthen the defense capability of Beijing city, another seven gates were built on the South of the inner city as the outer circle. There is a folk saying that describes the gates of Beijing, “nine inside, seven outside, four in the Imperial City” which refers to the number of gates in and out of Beijing. Nine gates were built in the inner city of old Beijing. When the emperor existed, there were strict rules about getting in and out of the city gates. Each gate had its own purpose and excuse. As the old saying goes, “Nine kinds of goods’ carts went through nine different gates”. With the rapid development and changes of Beijing city, the picture of the old city being surrounded by the city walls has disappeared. Instead of the city walls, the spacious ring roads take place. The city gates only remained as geographic name. From the remaining gate and Arrow Tower of Zhengyangmen and as well as the Arrow Tower of Deshengmen, it seems that we can imagine the picture of the old Beijing city.Recalling the city gates of the ancient capital, savoring the “Beijing flavor” culture, we seem to hear the morning bell and evening drum of the Bell and Drum Tower again in the haze. As the song goes, “Although I have travelled a lot and been to many famous cities, thinking quietly, I still love Beijing most”.
