The Shortest Hutong YICHI STREET
The shortest hutong in Beijing is to the south of Liulichang East Street, the section from the northeast junction of Tongzi Hutong to the north junction of Yingtao Hutong. It is called Yichi ("One Foot") Street. Although this hutong is short, it is longer than one foot! lt is more than 25 meters long. In early times, there were 6 businesses trading in this hutong, the three on the north side were engravers, while of the three on the south side, the middle one was a blacksmith, to the western side was a tavern and to the eastern side a barber's. Although this hutong is very short, it offers a real flavour of Beijing, in fact you could say this spot was old Beijing in miniature.
