在北京西四南大街路西，有一座青砖古塔，民间称之为万松老人塔。古塔旁边有条胡同因塔而得名，叫砖塔胡同，这是北京第一个称作胡同的地方。这条胡同的名字已被叫了 700 多年，自元朝至今未曾改变过。砖塔胡同不仅是京城最古老的胡同之一，也是一条历代文字记载最全、风貌保存较好、历史非常悠久的老胡同。有人形容这条胡同是北京胡同的根。

The Oldest Hutong ZHUANTA HUTONG
On the west side of Beijing's Xisi South Street there is an ancient brick pagoda known as the Pagoda of Monk Wan Song. Beside this pagoda there is a hutong which was named after the structure-Zhuanta Hutong ("Brick Pagoda Hutong"). This was also the first place in Beijing to be called a hutong. Zhuanta Hutong has been known by this same name for over 700 years, from the Yuan dynasty to the current day.Zhuanta Hutong is not only one of the oldest hutongs in the capital, it is also one whose written records has been best documented throughout the generations; a well preserved hutong with a long history. Some people describe Zhuanta Hutong as the "root" of Beijing hutongs.
