本章收录了我关于中英关系的10篇演讲，从到任招待会到离任招待会。使英11年，我与4位英国首相和6位外交大臣打过交道，见证了中英致力于构建面向21世纪全球全面战略伙伴关系，也经历了两国关系的起伏和挫折。这11年，我讲得最多的主题是：我们需要什么样的中英关系？怎样建立稳定互惠的中英关系？从向英国工商界阐述坚持正确的义利观，到在英国议会论述中英关系的“三要三不要”，再到在中外记者会上指出中英关系的“变”与“不变”，我强调的是中国始终坚守对中英建交的初心，坚定奉行互相尊重主权和领土完整、互不干涉内政和平等互利的外交原则，这是《联合国宪章》确立的基本原则和国际法与国际关系的基本准则。希望英方同样遵守这些原则和准则，与中方相向而行。只有这样，中英关系才能行稳致远，造福两国和世界。

This chapter includes 10 of my speeches on China-UK relations, from the one at my arrival reception to the one at my departure reception. During my 11 years in the UK, I interacted with 4 British prime ministers and 6 foreign secretaries, witnessing the commitment on both sides to building a comprehensive strategic partnership for the 21st century, and experiencing the ups and downs of the bilateral relations. Throughout these 11 years, the topics I spoke about the most were: What kind of China-UK relationship do our two countries need? How do we establish a stable and mutually beneficial China-UK relationship? From explaining the importance of putting righteousness and interests in perspective to the British business community, and discussing the“three choices”of China-UK relations in the British Parliament, to pointing out what has changed and what has not in China-UK relations at a press conference with Chinese and foreign journalists, I emphasized that China always upholds the original intention of establishing diplomatic relations with the UK and firmly adheres to the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-interference in each other's internal afairs,and equality and mutual benefit, which are the basic principles established by the UN Charter and the fundamental norms of international law and international relations. I hope the UK also adheres to these principles and norms, and works together with China.
