Stalactites and stalagmites are stones that “grow” in limestone caves, whether they hang down from the cave ceiling like stalactites or rise upward from the cave f loor like stalagmites. They are both the remarkable products of calcium carbonate deposits. Over time, the shape and size of these formations constantly change. The Tai’an Underground Great Rift, located in Tai’an City, Shandong Province, possesses the most diverse variety of stalactites in the world to date. It is essentially a museum of stalactites.
