The Winter Solstice has the shortest day and the longest night of the year, marking the beginning of the coldest period of the year.After the Winter Solstice, the temperature gets lower and lower, and people's outdoor activities gradually decrease.Farmers don't do much work in the field.They are busy maintaining irrigation systems, protecting crops from freezing, and preparing for spring planting.
Chinese people have always attached great importance to the Winter Solstice.Many places regard it as a festival and celebrate it in different ways.People in the north have the custom of eating jiaozi on this day, while people in the south have the tradition of eating tangyuan.
1. 第一句： “标志着一年中最寒冷时节的开始”起补充说明的作用，可翻译为现在分词结构marking the beginning of the coldest period of the year。
2. 第二句： “气温越来越低”翻译为the temperature gets lower and lower，使用了“比较级+and+比较级”的结构，表示“越来越”；“人们的户外活动逐渐减少”与前面的句子呈并列关系，翻译为and连接的并列句，即people's outdoor activities gradually decrease，“户外活动”即outdoor activities。
