汉末刀兵起四方,无端袁术太猖狂,
不思累世为公相,便欲孤身作帝王。
强暴枉夸传国玺,骄奢妄说应天祥。
渴思蜜水无由得,独卧空床呕血亡。

The last days of Han approached and weapons clashed in every quarter,
The misguided Yüan Shu,lost to all sense of honour,
Forgetful of his forefathers, who had filled the State's highest Offices,
Madly aspired to become himself Emperor,
Resting his outrageous claim on the possession of The Seal,
And arrogantly boasting that thus he fulfilled the design of Heaven.
Alas!Sick unto death he vainly begged for a little honey—water;
He died,alone.

The end of Han saw all the realm in arms:
What grounds had Yuan Shu for his mad ambition?
From family high in service all these years,
He alone craved the royal throne.
Having seized the precious seal of state,
He claimed by Heaven's signs to be elected.
Denied a little honey at the end,
Alone he died,spitting blood,in bed.
