A study on the legacy of international Olympic education

Introduction :Olympic education was not only the original intention of modern Olympic Movement founders represented by Pierre de Coubertin when they started the grand social movement,but it has also been a beacon light for the vessel of Olympic movement in the past more than a hundred years.There is no doubt that the construction of Olympic ideological system,or the setup of the organization system of the Olympic Games,or the choice of activity mechanism are all related to the education.Over the past more than a hundred years,the effects Olympic education has produced and the legacies it has left to the Olympic moment are the unavoidable questions being answered in today’s Olympic research field.This research makes an attempt to explore some fundamental answers to these questions.

Methods :Three research methods including literature,historical analysis,and logic analysis are mainly employed in this research.

Results :After the constant development in more than a century,the Olympic Movement has,firstly,developed its unique educational ideological legacy which was guided by Olympism,with the Olympic Spirits of mutual understanding,friendship,solidarity and fair play,as well as the Olympic Motto of Faster,Higher,and Stronger at the core.Secondly,the Olympic movement advances with times and enriches its core education platform-the Olympic Games,to put education into full practice,where the perfect vehicles for the Olympic education have been created including 35 sports legacies enlisted in summer and winter Olympic Games,ceremonial legacies represented by torch relay,opening ceremony,victory ceremony and closing ceremony,and image legacies represented by the anthem,emblem,medals and mascots of the Olympic Games.Lastly,the subjects of Olympic education have spread from initial athletes to later the general public with Olympic athletes as models,common young people at the core.This is a legacy that nothing but the Olympic Movement are able to leave to the whole mankind.

Discussion /Conclusion :It can be definitely concluded that the legacies of Olympic educational ideology are proved to be universal and everlasting since the very beginning of the Olympic Moments.Legacies of vehicles for the Olympic education,naturally blending sports with culture and arts,have already become an important approach to educate generations of young people both in the past and in the future.The legacies of objects of Olympic education are characterized by elite demonstration,and more particularly,by its universality and globality involving all races,all nations and all countries.
