“树立健康第一的指导思想，切实加强学校体育工作”“积极开展校园文化活动，把德育与智育、体育、美育有机结合起来，寓教育于文化活动之中，促进大学生思想道德素质、科学文化素质和健康素质协调发展”是中共中央、国务院、教育部和共青团中央对全国各级各类学校和广大体育教育工作者提出的要求。贯彻落实这一要求，学校领导是关键，只有学校领导的理念升华了，认识统一了，才能带领学校广大体育工作者着力于学校体育教育工作的开展与实施，才能为校园体育文化建设创造良好的环境和条件，从而进一步推动新时期学校体育教育的改革与发展。
新时期中共中央从战略的高度对学校体育教育提出了新的要求，如何实现这一任务，如何突破体育教育中的瓶颈问题，这就需要进行不断的、深入的创新研究。中国大学生体育协会网球分会组织的“全国高校校长论体育教育研究暨网球文化高端论坛”就是一次非常有意义的尝试。而此次高端论坛参与学校之多、研究的问题之广泛、校领导的研究成果之丰富、影响力之大，是显而易见的。
居里夫人说：“科学的基础是健康的身体。”体育在培养全面发展的人才和在整个教育事业中具有重要的作用和意义是勿庸置疑的。那么，作为一名教育家，作为一名大学校长有责任抓好体育教育。西安交通大学校长郑南宁院士讲：“一所合格的大学是把教育教学搞好；一所好的大学更要注重人格养成；一所优秀的大学除了前两者之外，还要注重体育精神的培养。”这些话道出了体育教育在大学教育中的作用与地位。胡锦涛总书记在清华大学100周年校庆的时候也没有忘记体育教育，在提到为数不多的清华大师名人中就有体育教育家马约翰，还有蒋南翔校长那句历久弥新的口号“为祖国健康工作五十年”。
组织编撰并出版《中国高等学校体育教育研究——大学校长论体育教育暨网球文化》这本书的出发点，主要基于以下考虑：一是新时期大学校领导对体育教育的认识，决定了学校体育教育的发展；二是大学校领导自身所具有的体育精神，潜移默化的影响着青少年学生体育精神的培养；三是大学校领导参与体育运动的实践，对引导青少年学生体育锻炼具有明显的言传身教之功效。因此，该书的出版发行具有重大的现实意义。
本书编撰了全国多所知名高校的校级领导针对新时期学校体育教育、校园体育文化建设等重大问题进行研讨的理论观点，以及对实现学生体质健康为目标的学校体育工作改革的做法与经验。这些研究与经验充分体现了各大学的校领导，既是体育教育理论研究的专家学者，又是亲身参与体育运动的实践者和带头人，充分体现出了新时期大学校长作为一名教育家所应具有的领导素质。
对于学校体育教育工作的有效开展而言，校领导的理论研究成果和实践经验无疑是一笔宝贵的财富，有广泛宣传之必要。因此，我们积极组织将众多大学校领导研究成果编辑成《中国高等学校体育教育研究——大学校长论体育教育暨网球文化》一书，奉献给全国各级各类学校的领导和学校体育教育工作者以及广大的青少年学生，相信在学校体育教育工作中必将会产生巨大影响并发挥出不可替代的积极作用。
《中国高等学校体育教育研究——大学校长论体育教育暨网球文化》的编撰出版，是进一步加强和改进学校体育工作的需要，是促进全国各级各类学校领导和广大体育教育工作者不断研究和创新增强学生体质的理论与技术的需要。同时，该书体现了体育教育的理论价值与网球运动的文化品位，有利于青少年学生培养体育精神、强健体魄和校园体育文化的建设。

Madame Curie said that,“The scientific foundation is the healthy body”. The sports in the talented person and in the entire education who raises the full scale development has the vital role and the significance which is the no need to doubts.A university principal has the responsibility to pay special attention to the sports education. Xi'an Jiaotong University Principal academician Nanning-Zheng said education function and the status of the sports education in the college. General Secretary Jintao-Hu at Qinghua University 100th anniversary school anniversary time has not forgotten the sports education. Also has Principal Nanxiang-Jiang made up the new slogan “to work for 50 years for the motherland health”.
In president of university in the high-end forum's foundation, publishing "Chinese College Sports Education Research - - President of university To discuss Sports Education And Tennis Culture" , mainly has three goals. First, the new time university school leader to the sports education's understanding, has decided the school sports education development; Second, the university school leader ‘s sports spirit, influences subtly young students’ sports spirit raising; Third, the university school leader participates in sports' practice, to guides the young students physical training to have obviously teaches by personal example the effect.
This book compiled the national many well-known university's field grade leaderships in view of the new time school sports education, the campus sports cultural reconstruction and so on major issue to carry on the deliberation the theory viewpoint, and the law and the experience.to the school sports work. This manifested new time president of university to take the leadership quality which fully an educationalist should have.
Speaking of the school sports educational work's effective development, the school leader's fundamental research achievement and the experience are precious wealth without doubt, has necessity of the widespread propaganda.
