关公曰：“酒且斟下，某去便来。”出帐提刀，飞身上马。众诸侯听得关外鼓声大振喊声大举，如天摧地塌，岳撼山崩，众皆失惊。正欲探听，鸾铃响处，马到中军，云长提华雄之头，掷于地上。其酒尚温。后人有诗赞之曰：

威镇乾坤第一功，辕门画鼓响冬冬。

云长停盏施英勇，酒尚温时斩华雄。

"Wait a moment and I’ll be back shortly to drink it." Guan Yu said. He went out, took his green dragon-moon-shape-sword in hand, and leaped his horse. Soon these inside of the tent heard the fierce beating of the drums and a might sound as if the sky falling and the ground sinking, hills trembling and mountains tearing asunder. When a staf oficer was about to be sent to inquire,there came the jingling of bridle bells. Guan Yu returned with Hua Xiong’s head in hand. Guan Yu threw the head at their feet and took the warm wine.

A po et of latertimes sang Guan Yu’s praises:

The power of the man stood the top of the world,

At the gate of the camp was heard the rolling of the batle drums;

Then Guan Yu set aside the wine cup till he displayed his valor,
