惇纵马追赶，顺绕阵而走。惇不舍，亦绕阵追之。阵上曹性看见，暗地拈弓搭箭，觑得亲切，一箭射去，正中夏侯惇左目。惇大叫一声，急用手拔箭，不想连眼珠拨出，乃大呼曰：“父精母血，不可弃也！”遂纳于口内啖之，仍复挺枪纵马，直取曹性。性不及提防，早被一枪搠透面门，死于马下。两边军士见者，无不骇然。

Gao Shun could not defeat Xiahou Dun and turned to ride away. Xiahou Dun urged to pursue after Gao Shun even riding around the camp. At this moment, Cao Xing, in Lv Bu’s army, saw the chance to make a sneak atack to Xiahou Dun. He took his bow and fited an arrow and shot secretly at Xiahou Dun’s left eye.

Xiahou Dun cried in pain, tried to pull out the arrow, with his eyeball stucked to the point. He cried,"This was from my parents, I cannot throw it away." Then he put the eye into his mouth and swallowed it.
