阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

Lunch Bag Surprise

The bell rang. Jacob smiled. He grabbed his lunch bag out of his backpack. He unzipped it and looked inside. He blinked. He looked again. Beside his usual salami sandwich and juice box, there was an envelope marked only with a “?” on it.

Jacob opened the envelope and slid out a photograph. It was of a suitcase. After he got home that afternoon, he asked his mother, “Are we going on a trip?”

His mother shrugged. “I guess it’s a mystery.”

The next day at lunchtime a new envelope peeked out. Jacob found a tiny toy airplane. Now he was curious! He put the toy in his pocket and ate his lunch, thinking about what it could mean.

“Are we taking a plane somewhere?” he asked his mother.

She just smiled at him. Jacob tried getting more information from her, but his mother laughed, her eyes sparkling. “I guess it’s a mystery,” was the only answer she gave him.

“Mom!” Jacob was frustrated. A suitcase and an airplane? Could that mean they were going on a trip somewhere far enough away they had to fly there? That could be anywhere in the world!

Over the next few days, Jacob eagerly opened his lunch bag to see what new clue was waiting there for him. First, he found a small pin of the American flag. The next day there was a leaf from a palm tree rolled up in his bag. The day after that Jacob found a juicy orange.

He tried hard to put all the clues together. He thought he had some idea, but he wasn’t sure what the orange meant. Maybe it was just a snack? He peeled it and took a bite; the sweet juice tasted like sunshine and dribbled down his chin. Jacob whooped in excitement. He had a feeling he knew where his mystery destination might be!

1、故事梗概

故事要从午餐袋说起。Jacob某天在自己的午餐袋里发现一个画着问号的信封,里面装着一张行李箱的图片。回家问妈妈,妈妈笑而不答,说这是个mystery,让Jacob自己猜。接下来的几天,Jacob的午餐袋里都放着信封,里面装的有飞机、棕榈树叶子的照片和桔子。在吃着桔子的那一刻,Jacob猜到了大概要去的旅游目的地。可是接下来的一天中午,他的午餐袋子里却没有信封了。那么Jacob会怎么想?做什么呢?题目提供的第二段首句,老师给Jacob拿来了有老鼠耳朵的帽子。那么Jacob又会做什么?因为是老师过来当着同学的面给的帽子,那么同学会有什么反应呢?

需要注意的是,文中提到的orange,到底是提示什么呢?这里提示大家一下:1955年创立的加州迪士尼乐园位于南加州Orange County。当然,大家如果不知道这个背景,单从带老鼠耳朵的帽子,应该也能猜到旅游目的地和故事的发展了。

2、写作步骤

Step 1: Grasp the outline.

把握记叙文的六要素,把握故事梗概。

Step 2: List the plot.

梳理主要情节:

这篇续写的故事情节非常简单:Jacob在午餐袋里发现行李箱图片→Jacob回家问妈妈是不是要去旅游?妈妈笑而不答→Jacob第二天、第三天连续找到其他线索,如飞机、棕榈树叶子的照片和桔子→接下来的中午Jacob却没有收到线索→???→老师拿来老鼠耳朵的帽子???

了解文章的主要情节后,初步确定续写的方向和细节。

Step 3: Trace more clues.

在文章中寻找更多的线索,为下面的续写提供更多的思路,让故事圆满。

尽管妈妈对Jacob提出的“是否去旅行”这个问题笑而不答,但是学生根据原文最后一句话“He had a feeling he knew where his mystery destination might be!”可以猜到是去旅行。至于旅行目的地,可以通过续写第二段段首句猜到。

所以,根据第一段段首的信息(没有继续收到线索),学生可以写Jacob充满了失望,也可以写他充满希望,只要内容符合逻辑、符合常理就可以。

Step 4: Construct the plots and explore the theme.

续写时的情节一定要与原文相符,按照原文故事发生的逻辑来谋篇布局。

Step 5: Complete and polish the story.

根据已知情节、主题、线索和所给段首句对文章结局进行合理推测、建构,培养和训练自己的逻辑思维及推理能力,完成故事。最后,书写时要注意字迹清晰、端正。

Life-Giving Touch

On March 25, 2010, it was supposed to be the happiest day for Kate and David Oggs. Kate gave birth to their twins, a girl and a boy, who were born two minutes apart and 14 weeks premature, weighing just over two pounds each. They were so tiny that each of them could fit in the palm of David’s hand. Several minutes later, they heard the words every parent dreads (害怕): Their newborn boy wasn’t going to make it. Doctors had tried to save the boy for 20 minutes but saw no improvement. His heartbeat was nearly gone, and he’d stopped breathing. The baby had just moments to live.

Kate saw the baby boy gasp, but the doctor said it was no use. Kate knew it sounded stupid, but if he was still gasping, that was a sign of life. She wasn’t going to give up easily.

Still, the Sydney couple knew this was likely goodbye. In an effort to cherish her last minutes with the tiny boy, Kate begged the doctors to hold him.

“I wanted to meet him, and for him to know us,” Kate told the doctors. They’d resigned themselves to the fact that they were going to lose him, and they were just trying to make the most of those last, precious moments.

Holding back her sorrow, Kate unwrapped the boy, whom the couple had already named Jamie, from his hospital blanket and ordered David to take his shirt off and join them in bed. The first-time parents wanted their son to be as warm as possible and hoped the skin-to-skin contact would improve his condition. She hummed cradle songs to him just like when she was pregnant. They also talked to him, trying to entice (引诱) him to stay. They explained his name and that he had a twin sister called Emily whom he had to look out for and how hard they had tried to have him.

I told my mother what had happened. She sat down at once, wrote another note, gave me more money, and sent me out to the grocery again. I crept down the steps and saw the same gang of boys playing down the street. I ran back into the house.

“It’s those same boys,” I said. “They’ll beat me.”

“You’ve got to get over that,” she said. “Now, go on.”

“I’m scared,” I said.

“Go on and don’t pay any attention to them,” she said.

I went out of the door and walked briskly down the sidewalk. But someone shouted. “There he is!” They came toward me and I broke into a wild run toward home. They overtook me and flung me to the pavement. I yelled, pleaded, kicked, but they wrenched the money out of my hand.

My mother met me at the door. “They b-beat m-me,” I gasped. “They t-t-took the m-money.”

“Don’t you come in here,” my mother warned me. I tried to force my way past her into the house. A stinging slap came on my jaw. I stood on the sidewalk, crying. She returned with more money and another note. And a heavy stick.

“If those boys bother you, then fight.” I was baffled. “Don’t you come into this house until you’ve gotten those groceries,” she said.
