纽约地铁的复杂算是比较出名的,很多新手常常会因为分不清方向而坐错。纽约地铁主要分两个大方向:上城方向(Uptown)和下城方向(Downtown)。上城方向指的是列车往北开,下城方向指的是列车往南开。
纽约的地铁站分为大站和小站。可以这样来辨别:大站入口处不会标明Uptown和Downtown,因为大站里有双向列车,即你可以在这里搭乘开往上城方向的列车,也可以搭乘开往下城方向的列车;小站则一般只有开往一个方向的列车,因此入口处会标明Uptown或Downtown,方便乘客提前了解列车方向,避免进错站。此外,同一站点的小站入口可能会间隔很远,所以在进入小站前,一定要在入口处确认列车方向,不然不仅要花冤枉钱,还要走冤枉路。
纽约地铁相同的线路在早晚高峰时还会分快车(express train)和慢车(local train),区别是快车只在个别站点停车,慢车则是每站都停车。
