I don’t know whether she is right.
我不知道她是否是对的。

第三种可以当作it的句子，是由whether所组成的名词性从句。
whether的意思是是否，它组成名词性从句的方式和that一模一样。
以“我不知道她是否是对的。”这句来说，英文的说法＝我不知道是否她是对的。＝我不知道whether她是对的（这件事）。＝“我不知道＋it.”的概念。
这句的后句“是否她是对的”，一样是前句所要说的事情，所以要用肯定句的写法＝whether she is right。
如果少了whether，就不能把she is right当作是“it（这件事）”来看待，而且语意也会不完整。

3．要注意want要配合第三人称“他”改成wants。

1．这句的主体是“It is hard to say.”的概念。
2．Whether所引导的名词性从句放在句子开头，一样是代表“it这件事情”，所以要用肯定句写法“Whether he will win”来表示。
我们上一课所介绍的that名词性从句，之所以可以省略后句的that，是因为that本身并没有语意存在，所以省略that后，完全不会影响语意。
但whether本身就带有语意是否的意思，如果省略whether，除了不能当作名词性从句“it”来看待，语意也会不完整。
因此无论whether是放在句中或句首，都不可以省略whether。
1．我不知道她是否生气了（angry）。
2．你不知道她是否生气了吗？（Don’t you know...）
3．为何你不知道她是否生气了？（Why don’t you know...）
4．因为我不高兴（unhappy），我不在乎（don’t care）她是否生气了。
5．他知道你是否孤独（lonely）。

7．因为他想念（misses）你，他在乎你是否孤独。
8．很难说（is hard to say）她是否将会嫁（marry）给约翰。（Whether she will...）
9．是否她将会嫁给约翰很难说吗？（Is whether...）

11．是否她将会嫁给约翰很难说因为约翰喜欢我多过她（more than her）。
◎再多学一点
1．还有一个词跟whether一样，也可以当作“是否”，那就是if，因此两者在名词性从句的组成上常常可以互换。
2．唯一不同的是，在句首时只能使用whether，不能使用if来互换。
3．因为if除了“是否”还有另一个意思是“如果”，若句子一开始由if引导，语意很容易发生误解。

中文： 没有人知道他是否死了。
英文： 没有人知道＋ 是否他是死了的 。

1．dead是形容词＝死了的，所以要用“他是＋死了的”的方式来表达＝he is dead！
2．句中将wheather换成if没有问题；因为可以根据前句“没有人知道”清楚判断后句的if的语意为“是否”。不会误解成“如果他是死了”这样语意不明的状况。

英文： 是否你是开心的 ＋是重要的。

1．这句若把If放在句子开头，容易一开始就将语意误导成“如果你开心是重要的”这样语意不通的句子。
2．为了避免发生误导，开头只能使用Whether来引导，才不会发生语意不通的状况。
