什么叫全球化，不同的人有不同的看法。不管人们怎样看待它，全球化已是不可逆转的趋势。所谓的美国化是全球化的一个必然结果，然而这只是全球化的一个侧面。过去人们惊讶于在亚洲国家看到各种各样的美国产品，现在人们同样诧异于在美国看到各种漂洋过海而来的亚洲产品，如中国春卷、日本料理，这就是亚洲化——亚洲对美国的影响，同时也是全球化带给我们的精彩。
Globalization means different things to different people. Some define it as the movement of people, language, ideas, and products around the world. Others perceive it as the dominance of multinational corporations and the destruction of cultural identities.
全球化对于不同的人意味着不同的事物。有人把全球化定义为全球范围内人们、语言、思想以及产品的移动。也有人认为全球化就是跨国公司成主流以及各文化特性标志的消失。
The world is turning into a little village, and we are all neighbors. The recent globalization in our world is an irreversible trend of which the so-called Americanization phenomenon seems to be more a consequence. Americanization is playing a major part in our daily lives—it gets into every little detail and we don’t even realize it. Going to any country in Asia nowadays, we are going to see many of the American coins now in currency everywhere. A few years ago when people came to Ho-Chi-Ming City, formerly Saigon [1] , they were completely marveled at the number of billboards advertising products from multinational companies, many of them American. It is unforgettable for people the vision of the sumptuous Coca-Cola billboards on a Ho-Chi-Ming street.
世界正变成一个地球村，我们互为邻居。现今社会，全球化成为不可避免的趋势，所谓的美国化无疑是最明显的结果。美国化在日常生活中愈演愈烈，深入到几乎每个细节，而我们却从没意识到这一点。如果现在走访亚洲各国，必定随处可见美元的流通。然而，若是几年前游览胡志明市（以前称为西贡），看到诸多跨国公司产品的宣传海报，而其中又多是美国的，人们必定会瞠目结舌。可口可乐林立大街的壮观场面的确让人过目不忘。
People have been used to find American products worldwide, but now it is also increasingly common to find Asian products in the United States. In the US today, diverse products from Asia can be found, ranging from food to movies to clothes. In many big cities, for instance, San Francisco, or Seattle, or Houston,we can buy Sisheido cosmetics from Japanat the Galleria Mall, have sushi [2] and sashimi [3] in one of the many Japanese restaurants in the city, go to the cinema and enjoy the beautiful American-Chinese movie Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon [4] and take home spring rolls [5] from one of the many Chinese restaurants in town. Everywhere we can see people wearing various shirts, coats, trousers labeled “Made in South Korea (China, Singapore, etc.).” It is the exotic flavor that makes our life fabulous.
人们习惯了在世界各地看到美国的产品，但现在在美国看到亚洲产品也渐渐成为司空见惯的现象。在如今的美国，各种各样的亚洲产品，从食品到电影再到服装随处可见。在许多大都市，譬如旧金山、西雅图、休斯敦，人们可以在风雨商业街廊购物中心轻而易举地买到日本资生堂化妆品，到随便一家日本餐馆品尝寿司和生鱼片，或者到影院欣赏完美的中美合资大片《卧虎藏龙》，甚至可以从中式餐厅带回点春卷。我们到处都可看到人们穿着各式各样标着“韩国（中国、新加坡等）制造”的衬衫、外套、裤子。正是这种异国风情让我们的生活变得多姿多彩。
Many people, however, would like to curb the globalization process in the world because they think they are losing their own culture, but in fact, it is very difficult to stop this process. The only thing we can do is to try to be critical and choose what is better for us to have or to buy.
很多人希望能放慢全球化的脚步，因为他们认为全球化让人们丧失了各自的文化。然而事实上，很难阻止这种进程。唯一可行的只是应该更挑剔，同时选择哪一样更值得拥有或购买。
However, many people reckon that young people are not free to choose when they are constantly bombarded by attractive advertisements which are specially designed to capture the youth market. Peaceful protests could be arranged just to help people to think about the situation, but the tendency in our world is to want globalization but not like where the different products come from.
也有许多人认为，现在年轻人不断地受到诱人广告的冲击，那些广告主要针对年轻人市场，在这种情况下，年轻人的选择应该受到限制。可以组织和平抗议运动来帮助人们认清形势。然而，世界目前的趋势是人们需要全球化，但却不喜欢各种商品的产出地。
