In the struggle between two factions, one side always prevails.The Shanghai Rebels seized power from the Municipal Party Committee and government, and established the Revolutionary Committee.The whole country was learning from the experience of the Shanghai Rebels, “to seize power, which was in the hands of a small group of capitalist roader in the Party and die-hards who adhere to the bourgeois reactionary line, from the top down”.Provinces across the country responded to the call enthusiastically.Backed by the Central “Cultural Revolution” Group, the Rebels established the so-called new red regime, the Revolutionary Committee.The establishment of the Revolutionary Committee in each province was celebrated by an editorial in three newspapers （ People’s Daily, PLA Daily, and Red Flag ）.When we returned to Dongyang, there were Revolutionary Committees in 29 provinces across the country.
At that time, Dongyang County had already set up a Revolutionary Committee.The focus moved to the countryside after taking over cities and counties.The Hengdian Commune also founded a Revolutionary Committee.The leader of the Red Guard became Deputy Director of the Revolutionary Committee of Hengdian Commune.According to regulations, the leading bodies at the brigade level must have cadres in the leading bodies, and “Three Combinations”must be carried out.
Politics tracked me down even after I tried so hard to escape.When I returned to Hengdian, it was at the critical moment when the Revolutionary Leadership Group of Hengdian Brigade was to be established.Mr.Zhou of the Rebel faction wanted to be the leader of Revolutionary Leadership Group.However, although his brother-in-law was the head of the Huxi Rebels, and his nephew was the head of the Hengdian Rebels and the deputy director of the Hengdian Commune Revolutionary Committee, many members of the Hengdian Rebels were opposed to his being the leader of the Revolutionary Leadership Group.Most members of the Revolutionary Committee of the Hengdian Commune did not approve of his appointment either.He did not have authority among the common people, who were even more opposed to his being the leader.
The Rebels came to me and asked me to be the leader of the “Revolutionary Leadership Group”.They said I was a leading revolutionary cadre and the “Three combination”.I knew this Revolutionary Leadership Group wouldn’t be approved if there were no veteran cadres in it.
I asked them what they expected out of me if I were to become the leader of the Revolutionary Leadership Group.“Listen to the Rebels.” “If you asked me to hit someone?” “Hit him.” “If you asked me to kill someone?” “Kill him!”
“Sorry! I won’t do it.”
The Rebels immediately changed their faces, “You are not a leading revolutionary cadre at all! You are a through and through ‘capitalist roader’! If you try to fight the Rebels or the revolutionists, it won’t end well!”
They immediately arrested me, locked me up in the attic of an empty house, and forced me to confess my anti-Party, anti-socialist reactionary thoughts and crimes of taking the capitalist road.In a minute, I was changing from a leading revolutionary cadres, to a “capitalist roader”and their prisoner.
Then there were the beatings and parades.They tried everything to torture me.But I didn’t give up.
