Dear Friends,
On behalf of the Postgraduate Association of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to all of the overseas students who will study at our university.
It gives me great pleasure to make two practical suggestions to you. Life at this prestigious university may not be as relaxing as you expected . You must work hard to respond to numerous lessons, lots of homework and countless exams. In spite of all these challenges, you can still enjoy your life here. It is strongly advised that you take part in various extracurricular activities like sports meets, speech contests, social gatherings and dances, which can provide you with ample opportunities to make friends .
All in all, studying at this university will be worthwhile. I hope you will enjoy yourselves here!

建议信首段应表明写作意图，简要介绍自己，注意语气，切勿啰嗦。中间段应针对情况提出具体建议或忠告，说明建议的内容，语言要委婉，否则对方会以为是投诉信而非建议信。尾段应总结建议，注意礼貌原则。建议信很容易写成议论文，应时刻考虑读者的感受，所以给对方提建议时可经常提到I和you。
① I am writing the letter to propose some useful recommendations to you as regards your major. 我写这封信是要针对您的专业提出一些有用的建议。
② I hope you find these proposals useful. 我希望您觉得这些建议有用。
③ I trust you will take my suggestions into account. 我相信您会考虑我的建议。
