子曰:“君子不重则不威;学则不固。主忠信。无友不如己者。过则勿惮改。”
The Master said, “Exemplary persons (
junzi
君子
) lacking in gravity would have no dignity. Yet in their studies they are not inflexible.
Take doing your utmost and making good on your word (
xin
信
) as your mainstay. Do not have as a friend anyone who is not as good as you are.
And where you have erred, do not hesitate to mend your ways.”
