ambivalent [ æm'bɪvələnt ]

常考 adj. 摇摆不定的;犹豫不决的 :if you say that someone is ambivalent about something , they seem to be uncertain whether they really want it, or whether they really approve of it

举例 The senator’s remark that she is ambivalent about running for a second term is persuasive.

参议员说她还在犹豫要不要竞选连任是有说服力的。

注意 run for为短语,意思是“参加选举,竞选”。

ameliorate [ ə'mi:lɪəreɪt ]

常考 v. 改善 :to make or become better ; improve

近义 amend, better, help, improve, meliorate, upgrade

举例 Nothing can be done to ameliorate the situation.

做什么也无法使情况好转。

派生 amelioration[ əˌmi:lɪə'reɪʃn ] n. 改善;改良

amenable [ ə'mi:nəbl ]

常考 adj. 顺从的,愿服从的 :liable to be brought to account; tractable

近义 docile, tractable, compliant, tame, submissive

amend [ ə'mend ]

举例 The term “modern” has always been used broadly by historians, and recent reports indicate that its meaning has become more amorphous than ever.

常考2 adj. 无形的 :lacking definite form; shapeless

近义 formless, inchoate, shapeless, unformed, unshaped

举例 an amorphous cloud mass 无形的云团

注意 该词可以这么记,a前缀表示否定;morph=form,其中f=ph,因为它们的发音一样;ous表示形容词后缀。所以amorphous含义就是“无形的、不确定的”。
