The Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the world's highest and longest plateau railway with a total length of 1,956 kilometers, 960 kilometers of which are over 4,000 meters above sea level, is the first railroad connecting Tibet and other parts of China. As the railway traverses some of the world's most fragile ecosystems, ecological protection measures have been taken during and after the construction to ensure that it becomes a“green railway”. The Qinghai-Tibet Railway substantially reduces the travel time between Chinese mainland and Tibet.
