CHAPTER 2
Upload: Five Principles to End Forgetting

A man's real possession is his memory. In nothing else is he rich, in nothing else is he poor.

— Alexander Smith

A SCENE FROM THE MATRIX, WARNER BROTHERS PICTURES, 1999:

TANK smiles as he sits down in his operator's chair, flipping through several disks. He picks one, and puts it into his computer. NEO looks at the screen.

Neo: Jujitsu? I'm going to learn … jujitsu?

Smiling, TANK presses the Load button.

NEO's body jumps against the harness as his eyes clamp shut.

The monitors kick wildly as his heart pounds, adrenaline surges, and his brain sizzles.

An instant later his eyes snap open.

Neo: Holy sh*t!

TANK grins.

While we can't yet upload jujitsu directly into our brains, we do have technology that can help us learn faster. This technology derives its power from five principles of memory:

These principles will enable you to remember more in less time. Combined, they form a system that can insert thousands of words and grammar rules so deeply into your mind that you'll be able to recall them instantly. Most attractively, this system can take what little spare time you have and steadily turn it into a usable foreign language. nLoO4ENYR+Y91ygCAnohmHpwPgCHuqvl9ai1LpYfSR4mUpCvie7fQbZAGvpZEHsx
