PREFACE

Traditional Chinese medicine processing（TCMP）is a precious heritage in the history of China.Under the learning requirements of majors related to Chinese medicine as well as the needs of inheritance and development of TCMP. Traditional Processing and Modern Studies is a bilingual monograph written and edited in Chinese and English by Lingyun Zhong.It highlights the frontiers of this subject for a better internationalization，including facilitating the understanding of the subject development of TCMP around domestic and foreign scholars.This book is written based on traditional medicine processing and modern research.Focusing on ancient theories and methods，where modern research results are closely followed.The content also considers additional subjects which safeguard the integrity of knowledge.

In general，the full text of this book is divided into three sections:part Ⅰ，part Ⅱ and partⅢ.The part Ⅰ outlines the contents of the monograph.While the part Ⅱ focuses on the traditional processing，which reflects the development and characteristics of Zhang Society and Jian Society of Jiangxi along with other TCMP schools，it describes the main processing methods and tools involved in different processing schools.The monograph offers the illustrations of processing tools to make them more intuitive and improve the reader’s perceptual knowledge.Concerning the traditional processing method，its enlightenment to the development of modern Chinese medicine processing is discussed.Finally，the last part of the monograph is modern research.The modern research of TCMP is mainly expounded on the aspects of processing mechanism，processing technology，composition before and after processing，efficacy，and quality standards.The editors shared their experiences on the processing of traditional Chinese medicine for the reader’s better understanding and provided their prospects for future development of this subject.We keep the references as the original version only in Chinese.

The distinctive feature of this book is that it is the effective fusion between TCMP tradition and modern research content.With the help of examples and bilingual literature，the content of this book is not only innovative but also more time-effective.References could be provided for both industry practitioners and international students engaged in the processing of traditional Chinese medicine.Through the interdisciplinary integration of basic knowledge of traditional Chinese medicine，chemistry，processing，and language，the scientific connotation of TCMP is revealed，and the processing theory is enrichingly developed.Besides，it lays a good foundation for the internationalization of TCMP.
