1.在一些表示祝愿的话语中使用

（1）用动词原形的祝福语：

God bless you!

Long live the Republic!

（2）固定说法：

Suffice it to say that we won.

Far be it from me to spoil the fun.

（3）以may开头的祝福语：

May you have a long and happy life!

May all your dreams come true !

2.用在 It's time 后的定语从句中的虚拟语气

在 It's time 和It's high time 后，若用从句，谓语应用虚拟语气：

It's time we ordered dinner.

I think it's time they were taught a lesson.

3.在一些其他句型中使用的虚拟语气

（1）由 that 引起的句子：

That he should dare to speak in that tone of voice to me!

Oh, that you would be quiet.

（2）would 后也有时用这种结构：

Would that we had seen her before she died.

Would that I were with her now!

（3）to think 后的句子中有时也可用虚拟语气：

To think he would come to anything like that.

To think that she should have died such a tragic death.

4.用在某些成语中的虚拟语气

（1）as it were（were就是虚拟语气）：

as it were 常插在句子中，表示“姑且这样说”“可说是”这类意思：

He became, as it were , a kind of hero from a strange land.

He was, as it were , intoxicated by the soft air and sunshine of spring.

（2）would think（本身就是虚拟语气），表示“会认为（想到）”：

Anyone would think you were in love with the girl.

Anyone would think he owns the place, the way he talks!

（3）would have thought（本身也是虚拟语气），表示“（谁）会想到”或“（原本）会以为”：

Who would have thought to see you here!

Who would have thought she'd end up dancing for a living!

（4）should...but...表示“原来是……”：

Who should come in but his first wife!

What should I find but an enormous spider!

（5）would rather (sooner)+不定式：

I would rather (sooner) be a miner than a bank clerk.

If she'd had a chance, she' d rather have lived 100 years ago.

（6）if need be（如果有必要）：

I will come if need be .

I'll work at night if need be .
