七、过去将来时态

1.一般过去将来时

(1)一般过去将来时表示从过去观点看将要发生的事:

It was six o'clock.The sun would soon set .

From these outings we would return on Monday morning.

(2)不管在什么人称后,这个时态均由“would+动词原形”构成,常用在从句中,特别是用于宾语从句中:

I knew you would agree .

He told me he would wait for me outside.

下面从句中也常常用到这个时态:

I thought it would rain , and sure enough it did.

It was a problem whether they would support us.

2.过去将来进行时及过去将来完成时

(1)过去将来进行时表示从过去观点看将来某时某动作会正在进行:

She said she would be looking after you.

I was excited.Next Wednesday we would be flying to Sydney.

(2)过去将来完成时则表示从过去观点看将来某时某动作已完成:

I thought Sophia would have told you something by then.

He knew by the time he arrived she would have gone home.

这两个时态用得相对比较少,通常只见于转述方面。

3.“从过去观点看未来”的一些其他表达法

(1)was (were) going to 表示“(过去某时)准备做某事”:

When we arrived the train was just going to start.

Judy was going to meet me, but she was ill and couldn't come.

(2)was (were) about to 正要做某事:

We were about to go into the cinema when Maria appeared.

I saw the soup was about to boil over, so I turned the gas off.

(3)was (were) due to 定于(某时)做某事:

The talk was due to last for three days.

She was due to graduate that autumn.

(4)was (were) on the point of 正要做某事:

We were on the point of telephoning you when your fax arrived.

The coach was on the point of giving up the game when our team scored two points.

(5)was (were)+不定式表示定于(将于)某时做某事:

She was to meet Kurt at an agreed place on the street.

Not a soul was to be seen .

(6)(were)+不定式的完成形式(本来打算做某事):

We were to have been married last year.
