Wednesday阅读理解 B

难度:★★★★

建议用时:7分钟

实际用时:______

正确率:______/4

When I was eight years old, a little girl near my age moved into the house across the street. The girl was an only child with two working parents. Therefore, she spent her summers in many camps and activities, leaving little time for play.

When we did get together, I would hear about all the activities she was doing. I often got the sense that she would have been happier playing with us, and having time to just imagine and entertain (娱乐) herself.

I was reminded of this friend and her full schedule when I read an article suggesting that there are so many activities and summer camps to fill children’s time and supply much needed childcare when kids are out of school. But child development experts suggest that over-scheduling children during the summer is unnecessary and could finally keep kids from discovering what truly interests them.

Unlike my friend, my childhood had duties, and I had some pre-planned activities, but all in all, I was given plenty of time to entertain myself and pursue (追求) my own interests. That entertainment included reading books, making music, or writing articles for our hometown newspaper. It is these three areas that I pursued as adult career choices.

This is not to say that children who spend their summers in camps and activities will never discover their interests—they can.

But when we are anxious to make sure that children are always entertained and occupied with adult-directed activities, we might be keeping them from discovering their interests which they might be more suited to than those we choose for them.

3. What can we know about the author’s career choices?

A. They remind her of her duties as an adult.

B. They have nothing to do with her interests.

C. They have relation to her childhood in-terests.

D. They make it possible for her to make a living.

4. What will the adults most probably be expected to do, according to the last paragraph?

B. Help children to discover what their interests lie in.
