Learning a language is not easy, especially a second or third one. I have had a bad 1 with learning languages, starting from my 2 one: English. My second one was Russian, which 3 like an alien (外星的) language to me.
My wife’s family is from Saint Petersburg, so 4 they spoke Russian. The first 5 I had when studying Russian was that it sounded like an alien language to me. Even saying “hello” sounded 6 and long. They say for the first year of studying a language, you are mostly listening and 7 words, phrases, idioms, and the like. That is mostly my experience: I could only 8 a sentence after one year of listening to Russian every day and 9 a bit daily. I went to classes, but after only three months, I still didn’t have any big 10 . Besides, I did not want to 11 anymore the teacher’s bad attitude and the large amount of homework. So, I 12 these lessons and started more natural learning. I started to have long 13 with my mother-in-law and other people. I also studied through some language-learning 14 on my way to work. After five years of this, I could 15 with others for long periods of time in Russian and 16 about 80% of what people were saying around me. Like English, it took lots of hours to become 17 in Russian. There was no trick or a(n) 18 way to become good at it.
Through learning languages, I can say that being 19 , persistence (坚持), and allowing yourself to make mistakes play an 20 role in studying a language well.
