正确率:______/4

As the healthy eating movements storm across the nation, certain big fast food retailers (零售商) are struggling to keep customers waiting in line . McDonald’s, for instance, has made promises to improve the quality of its food or providing healthier food for those of us who are concerned about what is in our food.

Fast food chains around the country are spending millions of dollars to create menus that are free of artificial ingredients (人工添加剂). But will they actually draw in more health-minded customers? So far, it’s hard to tell.

Many consumers don’t care about what is in their food, so the fast food industry’s efforts are of little value to them. W. Douglas Evans, professor at George Washington University, points out, “In general, people do not eat fast food with the expectation of it being something healthy, because most fast food diners do not pay much attention to their health.”

Others have good impression of the fast food industry’s attempts at attracting more customers. As Michael Moss, a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist and author of the best-selling book, Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us, points out, “McDonald’s has done some amazing things over the years in improving the quality of the meat. I really love that about them.” He expects that as the demand for healthy food grows, fast food industry will be able to provide more and more healthy food choices for the consumers. “McDonald’s is very much a leader in the fast food industry,” says Moss.

It is clear that people hold different attitudes towards fast food industry. Some regard its efforts as useless, while others praise it. At this point, it seems that what the future will hold for the fast food industry is truly anyone’s guess.
