As the healthy eating movements storm across the nation, certain big fast food retailers (零售商) are struggling to keep customers waiting in line . McDonald’s, for instance, has made promises to improve the quality of its food or providing healthier food for those of us who are concerned about what is in our food.

Douglas Evans, professor at George Washington University, points out, “In general, people do not eat fast food with the expectation of it being something healthy, because most fast food diners do not pay much attention to their health.”

Others have good impression of the fast food industry’s attempts at attracting more customers. As Michael Moss, a Pulitzer-prize winning journalist and author of the best-selling book, Salt Sugar Fat: How the Food Giants Hooked Us, points out, “McDonald’s has done some amazing things over the years in improving the quality of the meat. I really love that about them.” He expects that as the demand for healthy food grows, fast food industry will be able to provide more and more healthy food choices for the consumers. “McDonald’s is very much a leader in the fast food industry,” says Moss.
