21. 愚忠愚孝不可取 假仁假义要不得
21. Neither foolish loyalty and filial piety nor sham benevolence and righteousness are advisable.

忠有愚忠，孝有愚孝，可知忠孝二字不是伶俐人做得来；仁有假仁，义有假义，可知仁义两途不无奸恶人藏其内。

【今文解译】

忠有冥顽愚昧的忠，孝有冥顽愚昧的孝。从中可以知道，真正的忠和孝不一定是那些八面玲珑的人可以做得到的。

仁有假模假样的仁，义有假模假样的义。从中可以知道，在讲求仁义的人群里，未必没有奸佞邪恶的人混迹其中。

【English Translation】

There is loyalty which is called foolish loyalty and filial piety called foolish filial piety. These are the two moral entities that no smart guys can afford to go with.
