无事便思有闲杂念头否,有事便思有粗浮意气否;得意便思有骄矜辞色否,失意便思有怨望情怀否。时时检点得到,从多入少,从有入无,才是学问的真消息。
闲来无事时要反思自己是否有乱七八糟的念头,有事忙碌时要反思自己是否有粗俗浮躁的意气,得意时要反思自己对人有没有颐指气使的腔调,失意时要反思自己是否有怨天尤人的情绪。—时时这样检讨自己,渐渐由多到少、从有入无地将反思所发现的问题统统解决掉,这样的修养功夫才称得上是名副其实的。
Ask yourself the following: if you have any distracting thought when unoccupied, or if you are impetuous or ill-considered when occupied; if you boss others about when pleased with yourself, or if you become resentful when dissatisfied. — Self-examination repeatedly done like this can be called a real cultivation by which progress of perfection is made little by little and step by step.
