Now dinner is ready, and Lee is putting the plates on the dinner table. We know Lee never cooks, but he sometimes helps to get the other things ready so everyone can start eating.

After the plates, Lee will put some glasses and cups on the table, too. There are two glasses and two cups. The glasses are for the children, and the cups are for Mommy and Daddy.

After dinner, Mommy and Daddy always like to drink one or two cups of coffee. Lee and Pat never drink coffee. They just drink orange-juice, milk or water. Mommy and Daddy usually have a cup of coffee with breakfast, another cup at lunch and one or two cups after dinner.

Pat puts a lot of vegetables on Lee’s plate. She puts them with his rice. Now, nearly everything is ready. There is just the meat to put on the plates. There is not a lot of meat; there is just a little. Pat puts quite a lot of the meat on Daddy’s plate, but she only puts a little on Lee’s plate.

Lee can see that there is just a little meat on his plate. He is not very pleased about that. Lee really likes meat. He doesn’t like to eat vegetables very much, but he really likes meat.

Lee asks Pat to give him some more meat, but Pat says she won’t. She tells Lee that meat is not so good for him. She says he should eat more vegetables. She tells Lee that vegetables are much better for him than meat.
李让佩特再多给他一些肉，但是佩特说她不会给的。她告诉李吃肉对他不好。她说他应该多吃点蔬菜。她告诉李对他来说，蔬菜要比肉更好。
Lee doesn’t think so. He tells Pat that vegetables like potatoes just make people fat. Lee says he doesn’t want to be fat. He says that his friend Tom is quite fat and that it is sometimes difficult for him to play games with the other boys. He asks Pat to take away some of his vegetables and give him some more meat.
李可不这么认为。他告诉佩特像土豆这样的蔬菜只会让人们发胖。李说他不想长胖。他说他的朋友汤姆就很胖，有时候对他来说和朋友们一起玩儿游戏都困难。他让佩特拿走一些他盘子里的蔬菜，再多给他点肉。
Pat tells Lee that he is not in a restaurant now – he can’t just have everything he wants. She says he will just have to eat what she gives him. He will just have to eat what is on his plate. Lee is not very happy. He is not pleased with his sister today.

Daddy
Well, the vegetables are very good today. Does Lee sometimes help you in the kitchen?
Mommy
No, never. Lee is not interested in cooking. He’s only interested in eating.
Daddy
What wrong with Lee today? He’s very quiet, and he doesn’t look very happy.
Mommy
He’s not very happy. He’s not pleased with Pat because she only gave him a little meat for his dinner.
Daddy
I see. Well, he can have some of my meat if he wants. There’s still some on my plate. I don’t want it all. I’m not very hungry today.
Mommy
No. Lee will just have to eat the meat Pat gave him. I want him to eat more vegetables and not so much meat. Vegetables are better for him than meat.
Daddy
All right. But don’t make him eat too many potatoes. They will make him fat like me.
Mommy
You’re not fat.
Daddy
Yes, I am. Look at me. I wasn’t this fat when I was young.
Mommy
Oh, you’re O.K. Here, give me your cup. Let me get you another cup of coffee.
Daddy
Oh, no thanks. Just one cup of coffee is enough today. If I drink too much coffee, I can’t sleep.
Mommy
All right. Look at that meat on your plate. Can’t you finish it?
Daddy
Well, you see, I think I know someone who would like this meat more than me.
Mommy
I know what you’re thinking. You’re going to give that meat to Lee after I go out of the room.
Daddy
What if I am? I don’t want him to go to sleep hungry.
Mommy
He won’t go to sleep hungry. I told you! He has enough vegetables. Now, come on! Finish your meat!
Daddy
Yes, Mommy.
爸爸
今天的晚餐真不错。厨房里有人帮你吗？
妈妈
是的。佩特说她今天想帮我做饭，所以我让她煮蔬菜。
