The Nightingale and the Hawk

A nightingale was singing on an oak as usual. A hungry hawk saw her and swooped down on her. The nightingale didn't want to die, so she begged the hawk to let her go.

“I am too small to fill your stomach ,” said the nightingale to the hawk. “You can eat me, but you won't feel full. I advise you to free me, and save the energy to p ursue the larger animals…”

“Nice try,” interrupted the hawk. “I will be a fool if I give up the food I already have in my hands to run after other birds which I haven't seen.”

· A bird caught is better than more uncaught.
