A young man went to a car showroom (展示厅). He was wearing rubber boots and a dirty jacket.He needed a haircut badly. The young man looked at an expensive car c 1 and then turned to speak to the salesman.

“How much does this car c 2 ?” he asked.

“One thousand two hundred and eighteen pounds,” the salesman said.

“I’ll have sixteen of them,” the young man said.

The salesman smiled. He found it h 3 to be polite. “You are joking, of course,” he said.“I’m afraid we can’t help you. This car is not for sale.”

The salesman showed his customer to the door, and the young man left the shop w 4 a word. He went to a showroom on the other side of the street and asked for sixteen cars. The second salesman was polite and helpful. The young man took a bundle (捆) of banknotes (钞票) out of his bag and paid for the cars.
