I think scholarships should be earned because they are designed to encourage excellence from students. You need to work really hard and achieve something before you deserve to be awarded any scholarship regardless of your income or your family’s income. I understand that students from under-privileged families need financial aid but that doesn’t mean school scholarships should be handed out to them without any considerations. If they want scholarships, they need to have strong academic records to prove that they are qualified. Otherwise, they may just take it for granted and it’s also very unfair to other students who are also applying for money support from school.

I think scholarships should be awarded to students who have good grades because first of all, schools set up scholarships to encourage students to work hard and be brilliant. Grades of course should be the most important thing to consider. It makes sure that every student can have a fair chance at scholarships. Secondly, if schools are going to give scholarships to poor students, there could be a lot of problems. It’s really difficult to know who’s poor or who’s poorer. Sometimes students even pretend to be poor just so that they can apply for scholarships.
