Mr . White is making an appointment for a jobinterview withthe interviewer David

Mr.David:Hello,this is the human resources department of ABC Company.Can I help you?

Mr.White:Hello,I am calling to inquire about the job your company posted on the internet.

Mr.David:Thank you for calling.We posted several positions.Which position are you interested in?

Mr.White:It is the position in your Sales Department.Do you still have that vacancy?

Mr.David:Yes,the position is still available.Could you send your resume together with your final diploma and other relevant certificates?

Mr.White:Sorry,what do you mean by relevant certificates?

Mr.David:I mean any certificates to show your special skills,language proficiency,such as certificates of foreign language,computer certificates and so on.

Mr.White:Oh,I see.I was wondering if you could arrange an interview for me,please.

Mr.David:But what sort of experience do you have?

Mr.White:I have been responsible for product promotion in Eastern Region of China for the past year.

Mr.David:Fine,can I have your name and telephone number?I will make an appointment for an interview for you.

Mr.White:Certainly,my name is White and my phone number is 8233569.

Mr.David:OK.Can you come to my office at 10’o clock tomorrow morning?

Mr.White:Yes,thank you very much.See you tomorrow.

Next morning at the Personnel Department office Mr . David is having an job interview with Mr . White

Mr.David:Good morning,Mr.White.Please take a seat.I am the personnel manager.

Mr.White:Nice to see you.

Mr.David:Nice to see you,too.We have received your application letter and resume.I learned from your resume that you’ve graduated from Nanjing University.Were you in a leading position as a university student?

Mr.White:Yes,I was elected president of the Student Union when I was a sophomore.

Mr.David:Your academic record is excellent.What are your hobbies in addition to learning professional courses?

Mr.White:I like playing basketball.I was on the basketball team of my university and I also enjoy the team spirit of basketball.

Mr.David:How do you describe your personality?

Mr.White:Generally speaking,I am diligent,optimistic and energetic.

Mr.David:How do you get along with people who have different characters?

Mr.White:Well,I enjoy working in a team and I do admire those team members who have different characters and styles.

Mr.David:Do you have any sales experience?

Mr.White:Yes,in college I had some part-time job as a salesperson in a department store for P & G.I sold shampoos such as Rejoice,Head and Shoulders and Pantene.In doing so I gained some sales promotion skills.When I graduated from university,I worked for ABC Company as a salesman for one year.

Mr.David:What are your strong points?

Mr.White:I think I am very good at communication.To be honest,I work hard.I can work well under pressure and I enjoy the work that challenges me.I think that my English ability is also a strong point.

Mr.David:And what are your weaknesses?

Mr.White:When I think something is right,I will stick to that.Sometimes it sounds a little stubborn but now I am trying to find a balance between insistence and compromise.

Mr.David:Why do you want to leave your current job?

Mr.White:My reason for leaving my present job lies in the company’s products which are made for domestic customers,but I want to be responsible for international trade affairs.

Mr.David:Why do you apply for the position in our company?You know we are rather small and young.

Mr.White:I realize that.But I believe that I would have better opportunities with a small but rapidly expanding company like yours.

Mr.David:If you are hired,how long do you plan to stay with us?

Mr.White:To be frank,I won’t leave as long as I have the opportunity to apply my knowledge and get on well with my superiors and colleagues.

Mr.David:Thank you,Mr.White.We will inform you of our decision later this week.

Mr.White:Thank you.I will be waiting for your call.

White:Hello,this is White speaking.

David:Hello,Mr.White.This is David from ABC Company.

White:Mr.David,it is nice to hear from you.

David:Mr.White,I am happy to notify you that you have passed our interview!You are the right person for the position of sales representative.

White:That is great!I am really happy to hear that.

David:So,what salary do you expect?

White:In regard to salary,I will leave it to you to decide after you have seen the kind of work I can do.

David:Well,all new employees begin at standard of 3,000 yuan per month.Then,after training period,you will get a pay raise according to your performance.

White:That sounds good to me.What about other benefits?

David:We offer attractive compensation package that shall include both a base salary and sales commission.

White:Thank you.What are the working hours?

David:Forty hours a week.Monday to Friday,9 to 5 with one hour lunch break every day.

White:Do I have to work at weekends?

David:We do expect you to do overtime when necessary,but we pay double time at weekends.Please come to my office at 9 next Monday to arrange for your start.

White:Thank you.See you next Monday!
