47. wondering
48. determination
49. opposite

Questions 56-60 arebased on the following passage.
It’s only 36 centimeters tall, but to fans throughout theworld, it represents the highest achievement in football. Every four years, teams from all over the globe compete to take home the FIFA World Cup Trophy, yet nobody ever does.
Do you know why? Nobody ever takes it home because the 18-caratgold trophy is kept under lock and key by FIFA (Federation Internationale deFootball Association). The champions of each World Cup tournament receive only areplica. This is to protect the valuable prize from thieves, who have stolenthe World Cup trophy twice in its 75-year history.
The little trophy has certainly had a troubled existence. The original trophy was made by a French sculptor, Abel Lafleur, and was calledthe “Jules Rimet Cup”, in honor of the World Cup tournament. Sometime duringthe first three World Cup events (1930, 1934, 1938), the name changed to simplythe “World Cup”. Then during World War Ⅱ,not much was seen or heard of the trophy. It was being kept hidden in a shoebox under the bed of Dr. Ottorino Barassi, the Italian vice-president of FIFA,to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Nazi army.
Although the trophy made it safely through the war, itdidn’t fare so well during the turbulent 1960s. In 1966, the Cup was stolenduring a public showing of the trophy prior to the World Cup tournament inEngland. Luckily, it was found a short time later none the worse for wear in atrash container, by a little dog named Pickle.
Four year later, Brazil earned permanent possession of theoriginal trophy by winning its third World Cup title. Unfortunately, the trophywas stolen a second time, in 1983, and was never recovered. The BrazilianFootball Association had to have a duplicate trophy made.
After the First trophy became the possession of Brazil’sfootball association, a new World Cup Trophy for FIFA was designed by anItalian artist, Silvio Gazazniga, in 1974. This trophy cannot be won outright, but remains in the possession of FIFA, and rest assured they are keeping aclose eye on it. Today, World Cup winners are awarded a replica of the trophythat is gold-plated, rather than solid gold like the real one.
Gazazniga’s World Cup trophy weighs almost five kilograms, itsbase contains two layers of a semi-precious stone called malachite, and hasroom for 17 small plaques bearing the names of the winning teams—enough spaceto honor all the World Cup champions up to the year 2038. After that, a newtrophy will have to be made.
Questions 56-60
Complete thefollowing schema with no morethan three words for eachblank according to the passage.
56. in honor of
(第三段第二句“The original trophy wasmade by a French sculptor, Abel Lafleur, and was called the ‘Jules Rimet Cup’,in honor of the World Cup tournament.”
57. the Nazi army
(根据第三段最后一句“It was being kepthidden in a shoe box under the bed of Dr. Ottorino Barassi, the Italianvice-president of FIFA, to prevent it from falling into the hands of the Naziarmy.”
58. winning teams’ names
(最后一段倒数第一句“... and has room for17 small plaques bearing the names of the winning teams—enough space to honorall the World Cup champions up to the year 2038.”
59. a public showing
(由第四段第二句“In 1966, the Cup wasstolen during a public showing of the trophy prior to the World Cup tournamentin England.”
60. possessed

Questions 61-65 arebased the following passage.
Tropic rain forests are found in the Amazon region of SouthAmerica, as well as in Central America, Africa and Asia. Almost half of therain forests are Brazil. Tropical rain forests are very old, thick forestswhere it rains more than 1.8 meters per year. The oldest rain forest in theworld is in Sarawak. It is 10 million years old, and has 2,500 different kindsof trees.
(61) __________ The lowest branches of the trees are about ten metersabove the ground. Below the trees, there is another level of plants thatconsists of many kinds of smaller trees, shrubs, and flowers.
(62) __________ The lower level is protected by the trees above. Thetemperature and humidity (the amount of water, or moisture, in the air) stayabout the same in the lower level. There is not much sunlight. In the upperlevel, the sun, rain, and wind change the temperature and humidity often.
(63) __________ There are monkeys, members of the cat family, birds, andinsects such as bees, butterflies, and many kinds of flies. Other animals thatusually live on the ground also live here—mice, and even earthworms.
(64) __________ Most plants get nutrients from the ground through theirroots. These plants in the upper level take their nutrients from the trees theylive on and from the other plants that die there.
(65) __________ They make paths along the branches of the trees. A researcherfound a path that stretched for eighteen meters in one tree. One kind of tinyant makes a path only three millimeters wide.
Unfortunately, humans are still destroying the Earth’stropical rain forests. Nearly 80,000 square kilometers are being destroyedevery year. About a quarter of the destruction comes from people cutting downtrees for fuel. Another quarter is to make grassland for their cattle. Theremaining trees are cut down to sell the wood or to start farms. Thedestruction of rain forests is an international problem. One country—or even afew countries—cannot solve the problem alone. The nations of the world mustwork together to find a solution before it is too late.
Questions 61-65
Complete the passagewith the following sentences. There are two extrasentences that you do not need to use.
A. Rain forests arevery important to the world’s climate.
B. In rain forests, there are huge trees forty-five meters high.
C. An amazing animalworld lives in the upper level.
D. There is another surprisingthing about rain forests.
E. The upper level of the forest is thick withplant life because the trees are covered with other plants.
F. Each level of therain forest is its own world.
G. The animals in the rain forest need “streets”so that they can move along the upper level without going down to the ground.

Questions 66-70 arebased on the following passage.
If you were on adistant planet, and if you had instruments that could tell you the compositionof Earth’s atmosphere, how would you know there was life on this planet?
Water in theatmosphere would suggest there could be water on the surface, and as we allknow water is considered crucial to life. But water would only suggest thatlife is possible. It wouldn’t prove it’s there.
Carbon? Thatbasic component of “life as we know it?” Not necessarily. A diamond is purecarbon, and it may be pretty, but it isn’t alive.
What really setsEarth apart is nitrogen, which makes up 80 percent of the planet’s atmosphere. And it’s there only because there is abundant life on Earth, say scientists atthe University of Southern California.
The report grewout of a class discussion two years ago in a course taught by Capone andKenneth Nealson, professor of earth sciences. Students were asked to come upwith different ideas about searching for life on other planets. What is adistinct “signature,” as Capone puts it, that would show there is life onanother planet?
That’s aquestion that has been kicked around in many quarters in recent decades, especially since all efforts to find some form of life, no matter whether onMars or in the distant reaches of space, have failed. At least so far.
The currenteffort to search for some evidence of life on Mars focuses primarily on thesearch for water, because it has long been believed that water, or at leastsome fluid, is necessary for the chemical processes that lead life to takeplace. But that’s probably the wrong approach, the USC group argues.
“It’s hard toimagine life without water, but it’s easy to imagine water without life,” saysNealson, who was on the Mars team before moving to USC.
But nitrogenwould be a much clearer signature of life. Only about 2 percent to 3 percent ofthe Martian atmosphere is nitrogen. That’s just a trace, and it probably meansthere is no life on Mars today, and if there was in the past, it probably endedmany, many years ago.
But, the USCteam adds quickly, that doesn’t mean there’s no life anywhere else in theuniverse. They don’t know where, of course, but they may have found a way tonarrow down the search. Look first for nitrogen, then look for biologicalactivity that should be there.
So if lifeexists elsewhere, and is similar to life as we know it, there should benitrogen, and that’s what we should be looking for first, the researchers say.
If they don’tfind nitrogen on Mars, Capone says, “that will probably bring us to theconclusion that there likely never was life on Mars.”
But how aboutelsewhere? Could this technique be used to search for life in other solarsystems?
Maybe. It mightbe possible to detect a nitrogen-rich atmosphere around a planet orbitinganother star, but not yet. Current instruments aren’t that sensitive.
If they everare, the search for life might be narrowed down to the most promisingprospects, chiefly because of the presence of nitrogen. And won’t that be fun!
Questions 66-70
Answer the followingquestions according to the passage.
66. What can suggest life is possible butcannot be proved according to the author?
67. What is a clear “signature” of life onanother planet according to Capone?
68. What is considered as a wrong way tosearch for evidence of life on Mars?
69. What can probably prove there is nolife on Mars today based on the new theory?
70. Why is it impossible to use the newtechnique to search for life in other solar systems now?
66. Water.
(根据文中第二段“But water would onlysuggest that life is possible. It wouldn’t prove it’s there.”
67. Nitrogen./ The presence of nitrogen.
(文中第九段第一句话很明确地告诉我们“nitrogen wouldbe a much clearer signature of life”,氮气是生命的标志。)
68. The search for water.
(第七段最后一句话指出“But that’s probablythe wrong approach, the USC group argues”,在火星上通过搜索水来搜索生命的存在是不正确的。)
69. The small amount (2% to 3%) of nitrogen in the Martianatmosphere.
(文中第九段提到“Only about 2 percent to3 percent of the Martian atmosphere is nitrogen. That’s just a trace, and itprobably means there is no life on Mars today ...”,火星上氮的含量很少可以表明目前火星上没有生命的存在。)
70. Because current instruments aren’t very sensitive.

Questions 71-75 arebased on the following passage.
In August 2008,athletes from the United States and around the world will compete in theBeijing Olympics. But did you know that in September of next year, disabledathletes will compete in the Paralympic Games in Beijing?
The Olympics andthe Paralympics are separate movements. But they have always been held in thesame year, and since 1988, they have also been held in the same city. TheInternational Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committeesigned an agreement in 2001 to secure this connection. The next winter gameswill take place in Vancouver, Canada, in 2010.
The ParalympicGames grew out of a sports competition held in 1948 in England and a doctor named Ludwig Guttmann organized it for men who suffered spinal cord injuries in World WarⅡ. Four years later, it became an international event ascompetitors from the Netherlands took part. Then, in 1960, the firstParalympics were held in Rome. 400 athletes from 23 countries competed. By2004, the Paralympic Games in Athens had almost 4000 athletes from 136countries, who may have physical or mental limitations and may be blind or inwheelchairs. Yet sometimes they perform better than athletes withoutdisabilities.
In 1968, EuniceKennedy Shriver, the sister of former President John F. Kennedy, started theSpecial Olympics, which are just for children and adults with mentallimitations and whose programs currently serve more than two million people in160 countries. In November 2006, in Mumbai, India, teams competed in the FirstSpecial Olympics International Cricket Cup. In addition to India, there weremen’s teams from Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lankaand the West Indies. There were also women’s cricket teams from India andPakistan.
There are manyorganizations in the United States that help people with disabilities playsports. Wheelchair tennis is a popular sport. So is basketball. In fact, thereare more than one hundred professional teams playing wheelchair basketballthanks to the special wheelchairs for athletes that are lightweight anddesigned for quick moves. For people who want to go really fast in theirchairs, there is a Power Wheelchair Racing Association.
In the state ofUtah there is a place called the National Ability Center, which teaches allkinds of sports to people with all kinds of physical and mental disabilitiesand even gives friends and family members a chance to try a sport as if theywere disabled.
A reporter fromthe Washington Post wanted to know what it would be like for a blind person touse a climbing wall. So, protected by a safety line, the newspaper reporterclosed his eyes and started to feel for places to put his hands and feet.Trainers on the ground urged him on: “Take your time. You can do it.” Finallyhe reached the top.
At the NationalAbility Center people can learn to ride horses and mountain bikes. They can trywinter mountain sports, and learn scuba diving and other water activities. Thecenter also prepares athletes for the Paralympics.
These days, thefirst place many people go when they want to travel is the Internet, where theycan get information about hotels, transportation and services like tourcompanies. The Internet can also help travelers find special services for thedisabled. For example, there are groups that help young people withdisabilities travel to different countries.
Susan Sygall, who uses a wheelchair herself, leads an organization called MobilityInternational USA, and has traveled to more than twenty-five countries to talkabout the rights of people with disabilities. She says people with disabilitiesare all members of a global family and working together across borders is themost powerful way of making changes.

Translate thefollowing paragraph into Chinese. Remember to write the answer on the answer sheet.
76. Much of the discussion of environmentalproblems in the popular press leaves the reader with the impression that mattershave been growing steadily worse, and that pollution is largely a product ofthe profit system and modern industrialization. There are environmentalproblems today that are both enormous and pressing, but in fact pollution isnothing new. Medieval cities were pestholes—the steers and rivers were litteredwith garbage and the air stank of rotting wastes. At the beginning of theeighteenth century, a German traveler reported that to get a view of Londonfrom the tower of St. Paul’s, one had to get there very early in the morning“before the air was full of coal smoke”.
②leave sb. with the impressionof给……

77. Of course, most people never change their names even if they feelunhappy about them.
(even if即使。
78. When I use a different name, I always write in a different way.
79. The person’s real name is just too long and too difficult toremember.
80. For example, if a name sounds too “foreign”, it may be changedto something that is more recognizable in the market.
81. In the past, women found it very difficult to get their works published. To avoid this situation, they sometimes gave themselves men’s names.
(find itdifficult to do sth. 可意为“in order to”,也可直接省略为to。)
Proofread the passageas required. Each indicated line contains a maximum of one error. Correct the passage in the following ways: for aright line, put the sign “√” in the corresponding blank; for a wrong word, underline the wrong word and write the correct one in the blank; for a missingword, mark the position of the missing word with the sign “∧” and write the word you believe to be missing in the blank;for an unnecessary word, cross the unnecessary word with the sign “\” and putthe word with the sign in the blank. Write the answers on the answer sheet.
82. them→us
83. irresponsible→responsible
84. ∧means→which
which指代前面的“the extinction of about ahundred species of plant and animal life a day”,且在从句中作主语。
85. way∧which→in
86. √
87. survival→survive
88. 去掉the
89. in→of
90. are→is
91. it→that
(此处缺少claim后面从句的引导词,由于“our existence is underserious lineal”是一个完整的句子,不缺成分,所以此处用that引导。)

According to the chart, generally, during the years of 2011-2016,the per capita disposable income of Chinese citizens shows an upward trend, with a steady growth rate of about 2000 yuan per year. The per capitadisposable is only about 1400 yuan in 2011. Then the number reached 20,000 yuanin 2014 and exceeded 25,000 yuan in 2016, which is 1.7 times the value of 2011.Therefore, we can speculate that China’s economy is developing steadily.Chinese citizens’ income level is increasing, their purchasing power is goingup and the economic growth can be promoted in turn. According to this trend, the level of income will continue to rise steadily in around 2000 yuan per yearafter 2016.

Now in China, the adoption of the anti-addiction system and a “real name checking” system innetbars has led to a heated debate among students.
Some say thatstudents’ self-discipline is very limited and now at least 14 percent of theurban teenage players are addicted to the Internet and some children evenrepeatedly disappear from home to spend their nights at local Internet cafes, and play truant from school. Therefore, they have failed quite a few school exams. In this sense, the new policy can prevent minors from developing onlineaddiction.
Others claimthat the anti-addiction system is only a means to an end and cannot remove theroot of the online addiction completely and they believe the key is to guidethe minors to improve their self-control and balance their work and play.
In my opinion, the latter point hits home because it cuts to the chase. However, education isa long process and takes time, which means before education exerts effects onchildren, some supplementary measures should also be taken to speed up theprocess and the anti-addiction system is one of them.
