While high school does not generally encourage students to explore new aspects of life, college sets the stage for that exploration. I myself went through this (41)______process and found something that has changed my (42)______at college for the better: I discovered ASL—American Sign Language(美式手语).

The (46)______began during my first week at college. I watched as the ASL Club (47)______their translation of a song. Both the hand movements and the very (48)______of communicating without speaking (49)______me. What I saw was completely unlike anything I had experienced in the (50)______. This newness just left me (51)______more.

After that, feeling the need to (52)______further, I decided to drop in on one of ASL club’s meetings. I only learned how to (53)______the alphabet that day. Yet instead of being discouraged by my (54)______progress, I was excited. I then made it a point to (55)______those meetings and learn all I could.

The following term, I (56)______an ASL class. The professor was deaf and any talking was (57)______. I soon realized that the silence was not unpleasant. (58)______, if there had been any talking, it would have (59)______us to learn less. Now, I appreciate the silence and the (60)______way of communication it opens.

The following term, I (56) registered for an ASL class. The professor was deaf and any talking was (57) prohibited .

prohibit的英文释义为to say that an action is illegal or not allowed,意为“禁止”;ignore的英文释义为to behave as if you had not heard or seen someone or something,意为“忽视;假装不理睬”,即实际听到或看到了,但是假装没听到或看到。

1nJEsOWeHvq28Qz6UzhVcu0wURXtaX/I6DyKxfy8iMs8VMqFqDXW2/TEfC8pE9xs
