»Schönheit« ist deshalb für den Künstler Etwas außer aller Rangordnung, weil in der Schönheit Gegensätze gebändigt sind, das höchste Zeichen von Macht, nämlich über Entgegengesetztes; außerdem ohne Spannung: – daß keine Gewalt mehr noth thut, daß Alles so leicht folgt, gehorcht, und zum Gehorsam die liebenswürdigste Miene macht –das ergötzt den Machtwillen des Künstlers.

"Beauty" is for the artist something outside all orders of rank,because in beauty opposites are tamed; the highest sign of power,namely power over opposites; moreover, without tension:-that violence is no longer needed; that everything follows, obeys, so easily and so pleasantly-that is what delights the artist's will to power.
