三、哲理故事类

A

John was a very strong man. Once he got a job cutting wood in the forest. His boss gave him an axe(斧子)and showed him the area where he should work.

The first day, John cut down 18 trees.

"Good," the boss said. "Keep that up!"

Happily, John tried harder the next day, but could only cut down 15 trees.

The third day he tried even harder, but could only cut down 10 trees. Day after day he was cutting down fewer and fewer trees.

"I must be losing my strength ," John thought. He said sorry to his boss, and he said he could not understand what was going on.

“When was the last time you sharpened(磨快)your axe?” the boss asked.

"Sharpened? I have no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut down trees," said John.

While John was working hard, he didn't work "smart". He didn't think about the best way to do his job. Many of us never learn new skills, and we think that what we have learned is enough. Sharpening our skills from time to time is the key to success. [16]

Last Christmas,my friend invited me to watch a figure skating(花样滑冰)show in the largest skating rink of our city. We were very lucky and sat at the very front row.

The skating show was so beautiful that I wanted to learn it. I said, "Skating is an art and a sport in one! I want to learn how to skate and be a good skater!"

My friend laughed at me, "You must be joking! You can not even walk on the ice!" I made a decision to learn [19] figure skating at that time. I started taking the basic training course for skating a few days later.

The first class was about how to get on the ice. Most learners were little kids who learned very fast, but as a college student, I could not keep up with them. I often fell down on the ice, and it did hurt.

An old man was fishing on the bank of [23] a river. A child came to see him fishing. The old man was really good at fishing and it didn't take long for him to catch a full basket of fish. The old man saw that the child was very cute, and he wanted to give her a whole basket of fish. But the child shook her head. The old man was surprised and asked, "Why don't you want the fish?"

The child answered,“I want the fishing rod(竿)in your hands.”

The old man asked, "Why do you want the rod?"

"It doesn't take long to eat all the fish in a basket. But if I have the fishing rod, I can go fishing by myself and I won't be afraid of not having any more [24] fish to eat."

I think you will certainly say that the child is very smart. Wrong! If she doesn't know how to fish, she can not have fish to eat, even though she has the fishing rod. It's useless to only have a fishing rod. Fishing skills are the most important, not the fishing rod.

Too many people think that if they have a“fishing rod” in their life, they will no longer fear(害怕)the wind and rain. They are just like the child, who thought that if she had a fishing rod,she would have fish to eat.

( )1. Why did the child refuse(拒绝)the fish the old man gave her?

A. Because she didn't like fish.

B. Because she wanted his fishing rod.

C. Because the old man had few fish.

D. Because she wanted to learn fishing skills.

( ) 3. The article mainly tells us_________.

A. if you have a "fishing rod" in your life, you won't be afraid of anything

B. if you have a fishing rod, you'll have a lot of fish to eat

C. "fishing skills" are more important than "the fishing rod" in life

D. "the fishing rod" is more important than the fish that people catch

( ) 4. What is the best title for the article?

A. The fishing rod

B. The fishing man

C. The fishing girl

D. The fishing experience BmaWx15e5dpYlTSzwBf262qu3XQvkw9VuDTFKMFMtoLJvK0+7tuaUVgwU7FfNP6w
