Living in ancient Greece, Aesop wrote a collection of fables. According to records, Aesop used to be a slave, but he was such a great story-teller that he was given his freedom.
The fables are usually short stories. The main characters in the stories are not only humans, but also animals and plants which are given human qualities. The fables explain various aspects of human behavior and try to teach us a lesson. Well-known stories such as ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf,’ ‘The Fox and the Grapes,’ ‘Belling the Cat,’ ‘The Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs’ are good examples of Aesop’s Fables .
