冠词用在名词之前，一共有三个: a, an, the。其中a和an是不定冠词，而the是定冠词。

★ 元音音素和辅音音素的判别，要以发音为准。
比如an umbrella 中u的发音为元音音素/ʌ/；而a unit中的发音为辅音音素/ j /，需要用a而不是an，所以在分辨时需要尤其注意。
★ 有些单词看似第一个字母是辅音字母，但实际上发音是元音音素，需要用an。

I have an apple and a banana.
我有一个苹果和一个香蕉。
There is a pencil in the pencil-box.
铅笔盒里有一支铅笔。

在不定冠词a/an的固定用法中，其实a / an没有十分明确的含义，只是习惯用法，但也不可遗漏。
定冠词the在名词之前有特指的作用。即“这个，那个，这些，那些”等，用法较多。
The girl in red is my cousin. 穿红衣服的女孩是我表姐。
Is the red pen yours? 这支红钢笔是你的吗？
Do you like the film? 你喜欢那部电影吗？
（大家都知道在谈论哪部电影）
I went to the park yesterday. 我昨天去了那个公园。
（大家都知道你说的是哪个公园）
I have a cap. The cap is white.
我有一顶帽子，它是白色的。
This is my cat. The cat is three years old.

定冠词the 在不同的情况下经常出现在名词之前，在朗读时需要注意的是元音音素之前念the/ ðɪ /如: The elephant has two big ears. 大象有两只大耳朵。
辅音音素之前念/ ðə /如: The rainbow has seven colours. 彩虹有七种颜色。
We go to school from Monday to Friday . 我们星期一到星期五上课。
Students usually have a long vacation in summer . 夏季学生通常放长假。
Christmas Day is very important in America. 圣诞节在美国很重要。
John got to People Square by subway yesterday. 昨天约翰乘地铁到人民广场。
