Lesson 6
Making Suggestions(建议)

一、Conversations

Conversation 1

Andy: I’m not sure which activity to do. Any suggestions?

John: You are good at the 400-metre race. Why not try that?

Andy: Are you joking? Do you think I can beat Mike in Class One?

John: What about the high jump then?

Andy: No. Do you think I should try the long jump?

John: Well, don’t you think it would be a better idea for me to do that one? I’m pretty good at it.

Andy: I think I am good at it too. I suggest that you run the 100-metre race. No one in our school can beat you. If I were you, I would certainly choose that.

John: But I haven’t practiced for a long time. Shall we do some training?

Andy: That’s a good idea. Will Saturday morning do?

John: Yes.

Conversation 2

Daniel: Where shall we go with Linda? Shall we go to the Great Wall?

Kitty: I’m afraid that’s not a good idea. She went there yesterday.

Daniel: Well, we could go to the Palace Museum.

Kitty: Yes, that’s a good idea, but it’s very expensive. I’d like to go to the Temple of Heaven.

Daniel: Sure. Why don’t we go to Beijing Amusement Park, too?

Kitty: What a great idea! Let’s go to the Temple of Heaven and then play hide-and-seek in Beijing Amusement Park.

Conversation 3

A: Do you think I should join the basketball team, Mary?

B: Why not? If were you, I certainly would.

A: But I’m afraid it’ll take up too much of my time.

B: As the saying goes: Work while you work, play while play.

A: All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, you know?

B: Hmm, you’re right.

Conversation 4

A: Would you like to go swimming with me?

B: No, I don’t think so.

A: Why not?

B: I’m afraid I might drown.

A: Don’t worry! You won’t drown.

B: Are you sure?

A: I’m positive!

B: Okay. I’ll go swimming with you.
