电视剧《老友记》，是美国NBC电视台从1994年开播、连续播出了10年的一部幽默情景喜剧，也是美国历史上甚至是全球范围最成功、影响力最大的电视剧之一。跟传统情景喜剧不同的是，它不是设定在家庭或者工作场景中，而是完全用友情来联结人物。法国的权威电影杂志《电影手册》称它是情景喜剧的里程碑。故事主要描述了住在纽约的六个好朋友——娇纵可爱的千金小姐RacheI Karen Green，正直又专情的生物学家Ross Eustace GeIIer，神经质外加控制欲的Monica Erin GeIIer，幽默风趣的ChandIer MurieI Bing，傻气又天真的Joey Tribbiani，迷糊又迷人的Phoebe Buffay从相识到后来一起经历了10年的生活中发生的一系列的故事。《老友记》之所以受人欢迎，不仅因为其优良的品质，更重要的是，在不断的笑声中它让我们看到了一种和我们一样普通的生活，形形色色的人因为情感、原则、利益、地位等问题产生矛盾、闹出笑话，同时，亲情、友情、爱情也在这里升华。《老友记》无形中成为人们日常生活的一面镜子，可以让我们学习生活，去欣赏生活中的那些真善美。《老友记》共获得了33次艾美奖提名，其中4次为“杰出喜剧奖”；获得了1996年的电影演员工会奖；被3次提名金球奖的最佳电视剧音乐剧喜剧奖；连续5年获得全美民选奖的最受欢迎喜剧。

league除了有联盟、联赛的意思，还有范畴、范围的意思。所以这个短语的字面意思就是不在我的范围之内。通常用来形容很难得到。比如在申请学校时，你可以说“Come on.Don’t be kidding.How can somebody like me ever get an admission to Harvard?It’s way out of my league.（拜托，别逗了。像我这样的人怎么可能进哈佛大学？这远远不在我的能力范围之内。）”
