“blank”是空白的意思。这个用法最早源于16世纪伊丽莎白（Elizabeth）女王一世时期，她为了筹措款项，发行彩票，人们把自己的名字写在纸条上投进票箱，票箱里也有空白的纸条，如果抽到空白的，则没有奖品，后来这个词也就形容人脑海里一片空白。

Rose：Why did our teacher criticize on you?

老师为什么批评你？

Kevin：Eh, when he asked me in class, I drew a blank and answered nothing.
